The Serra de la Solana, also known as La Lloma Llarga, lies on the border of Benissa and Llíber at an altitude of over 600 meters. This challenging ridge hike takes us to its highest point, the Tossalet del Castelet (725 meters), with beautiful views over the Marina Alta landscape. The ridge forms the transition between coast and inland, offering panoramic views of both the mountains and the coast. In the second section, we descend into the valley via forest and rocky paths. On the return journey, we pass the Mirador de Solana, with views stretching from Calpe to the Montgó.

Mirador de Solana.

The Serra de la Solana, also known as the Lloma Llarga, stretches from Marnes to the Vall de Pop. This large mountain range, elongated and gently curving, has several hills along its crest. It owes its name to the fact that the eastern face, the most visible, is exposed to the sun, creating a dry slope, while the other side, the most hidden, offers a wetter slope full of vegetation. In the valley, we walk along forest paths between orchards and, a little further on, along rocky trails with the majestic Serra de Bernia before us. Along the way, we encounter ancient terraces and small dry stone structures, remnants of former agricultural activity.
On the way back, we pass the Mirador de Solana, a large viewpoint where we can relax on the benches and enjoy the expansive panorama of the coastal region from Calpe to the Montgó.

It can get quite windy on the Solana ridge. Because of the various hills, sudden gusts of wind are possible.

For hikers with dogs, take note: Shortly after the summit of Tossalet del Castelet, at the beginning of the descent, there are two sections with support chains, the second being particularly challenging. The route description PDF includes an alternative, shorter 8 km route that does not follow the ridge.
