Through the valley of the Riu de Sacos.

This hike takes us through the Riu de Sacos valley, near the village of Algar, known for its waterfalls. Starting from the large (free) parking lot just outside the village, we'll walk in a large loop through the valley. Passet dels Bandolers.

Along the way, we can optionally take a detour to the Pass dels Bandolers. This legendary and steep mountain pass connects the hamlet of Cases de Bèrnia with the Riu de Sacos valley, in an extremely inhospitable and precipitous setting. The pass is a spectacular vertical cut in the ridge where one can cross from the Marina Alta to the Baixa via a shortcut. It owes its name to the bandits who frequented this area from the sixteenth century to the end of the nineteenth century.
At the end of the hike, after a short but challenging additional walk, you can relax at a tiny cove with a waterfall (if there has been enough rain). The waterfall is separate from the famous Algar waterfalls and lies at the end of the Estret de les Penyes gorge. It is also the end point of a canyoning course, and occasionally you can see participants abseiling next to the waterfall.
