Valley of the Serskampse Beek.
From the starting point, you immediately enter the Oud-Smetlede woods and soon arrive at the forest chapel of Our Lady of Peace. Through an open landscape on unpaved roads, paths, and quiet lanes, you now walk towards the Hospiesbos. In spring, the ground turns white and purple with wood anemones and wild hyacinths. A sculpture by local woodcarver Adriaan Seghers also stands beside the beautiful bench. A little further on, you leave the woods and have to walk a short distance along the Smetlede Steenweg to reach the Paelepelbos. This beautiful natural area contains several ponds where the Great Crested Newt thrives. After another connecting section, you enter the Serskampse Beek Valley. The landscape here is wetter and marshier, resulting in a distinctive flora and fauna. One of the absolute highlights is the 300-meter-long boardwalk. This wooden path leads you straight through the marshy valley floor without getting your feet wet, and gives a good impression of the stream valley. In certain parts of the valley, you can come face to face with Hereford cattle, which help keep the area naturally open.
