Peat Bog route

Lake Donk is one of the oldest tourist attractions in Berlare, thanks to the hard work of local peat cutters, without whom this would never have been. We follow their trail through Berlare Broek, a pearl of a nature reserve along a forgotten meander from thousands of years ago. The walk shows a wide variety of small and large ponds, reed marsh, wet hay meadows and forests.

Berlare Brook.

The hike starts at the Welcome Gate of the Donk lake and goes over the busy Donklaan to dive into the unspoilt nature soon after. You walk on a wide dirt road in the direction of Berlare Broek, where it continues on beautiful paths through the forest and along ponds with reed marsh. At the 'Scheve Villa', a clubhouse for young scouts, you walk on a narrow path in the direction of the Donk lake. Between the Nieuwdonk and the Donk lake it goes in the direction of the Eendenkooi (duck cage), an area that has recently been completely reconstructed. The last part runs along the edge of the Donk lake back to the Donklaan and the starting point.
