Panoramic walk above the Guadalest valley.

The castle of Alfofra once dominated the Guadalest valley and formed a strategic point for communication between Alcoy and the coast. Today, remnants are still visible, such as arches, walls, towers, and the cistern. The castle has Islamic origins and was recaptured in 1264. Throughout the centuries, it served as a residence for the local nobility and later also as a military base. The architecture shows influences of both Romanesque and Gothic styles. The structure consists of multiple towers, ramparts, and courtyards, characteristic of medieval fortifications.
Benifato, with its Arab roots, continues to surprise with steep streets, stone fountains, a beautifully preserved public washhouse, and, centrally located, the parish church of San Miguel Arcángel.
The walk to the castle involves a steady ascent and follows mainly wide roads with little traffic. On the way back, you can enjoy the exuberant bloom of the almond trees in late February.
