Farmers lived on the edges of the area who were troubled by the shifting sands. To protect the fields, it was therefore decided to forest the drifting sands. At that time, almost exclusively softwood species were used. The Vresselsche fields are a small-scale agricultural area interspersed with small forest plots along the Dommel. The forest plots follow a narrow path higher up through the edge of the forest with a beautiful view of the lower Dommel. The nature area the Dommel beemden are the low-lying grasslands directly along the Dommel. Due to regular flooding, these soils were only suitable as hay land, this hay was important because it served as winter food for cattle. Originally this landscape was interspersed with trousers forests and coppice walls. Cereals were mainly grown on the higher parts of the brook. In the Dommelbeemden, a pond of water passes the Moerkuilen, a peat lake that was created by past peat extraction.
