Fagne De L'abîme.

You start at the watchtower and follow forest paths and roads through the immense forest of Croix Scaille to the French hamlet of Les Vieux-Moulins-de-Thilay. The hamlet was an important center of resistance during WWII. It was secluded, well protected by the woods and was therefore ideal as a shelter for the people of the resistance. For example, Marguerite Fontaine, who lived in Les Vieux-Moulins, saved numerous escaped prisoners and Allied pilots whose planes had been shot down. On the edge of the hamlet is a nice picnic spot. The walk takes you further through the forest to the peatland of Fange de l'Abîme. The Fange de l'Abîme is a peat bog plateau. At the intersection of two decking paths, the Ruisseau des Rousseries runs over its bed of black peat. He is cold and sour and hides among the birches and the sphagnum moss. Along the way, signs provide information about this curious area. This way you will learn everything about one of the last peat areas of the western Ardennes. The route continues through the forest to the starting point where you can climb the 45 meter high Tour Du Millénaire lookout tower to enjoy a unique view.
