Lozerheide.

The town is notorious for the long waiting times for traffic when the bridge of Sluis 17 on the Zuid-Willemsvaart is raised (the stop of Lozen). Contrary to the name, the Lozerheide nature reserve no longer contains heather. The original moorland was irrigated with canal water from the 19th century to extract hay, then it was forested with poplars to make matches, now it is a beautifully varied nature reserve. The tidal meadows arose when the Leopoldsburg barracks were a military stronghold, horses had to be fed with hay and the hay was used to fill the soldiers' mattresses. When this fell into disuse, the flow fields were planted with poplars to make matches. When this activity was also discontinued, the area was transformed into a beautiful nature reserve. As further sights is the lock complex in Lozen.
