The Castenray fens.

America is a village that originated in the late nineteenth century as a heathland mining village on the railway line from Eindhoven to Venlo. The station in the village was used for the transport of peat extracted in the Peel, the station was demolished in 1970. The Schadijk forest area, which covers more than 500 hectares, was created at the end of the 19th century when heathland areas were afforested throughout the Netherlands, often with Scots pine. This type of wood was very suitable as supporting wood for the coal mines in Limburg, because pine wood warns that it will crack when it comes under pressure. At the moment it is again a varied forest area with a large dune landscape with heather. The Second World War has also left its mark in this forest area, the stage passes a memorial cross. The Castenray fens therefore consists of a beautiful varied swamp forest (brook forest) and a number of sparse grasslands, through which an adventurous boot path runs that requires some skill from the walker.
