The Moerkuilen.

After leaving Nijnsel, the hike goes towards the Dommel, the walk takes you on a publicly accessible path on the grounds of the De Graspol landscape campsite with flowery plots of grassland and some beautiful views of the Dommel meadows. The Hazenputten fen area is visited in the Vressel forest. The area consisted largely of sand drifts and heathland. Farmers lived on the edges of the area who were troubled by the shifting sands. To protect the fields, it was therefore decided to forest the drifting sands. In the last part, the walking tour goes through the Dommel meadows again with the Moerkuilen, a peat lake created by past peat extraction. The Dommel meadows are the low-lying grasslands directly along the Dommel. Due to regular flooding, these lands were only suitable as hay fields. This hay was important because it served as winter feed for the cattle. Originally this landscape was interspersed with trunks of forests and coppice walls. Cereals were mainly grown on the higher parts of the brook valley - the bulbous fields.
