Weerterbos

The Weerterbos has gained much fame in recent years due to the presence of red deer. Soon you discover that the Weerterbos has much more to offer. It is a very varied area with old, moist deciduous forests, some beautiful fens and small heathlands. On the western side, the Weerterbos is flanked by dry forests of Hugterheide. Here and there you will discover a piece of heather.

Grenspark Kempen-Broek.

The Weerter forest and Hugterheide hiking area is on the border of Limburg and Noord-Brabant. It is located in the extreme north of the GrensPark Kempen-Broek. If you walk the yellow route you will pass the watchtower, the border church and the Hugterheide.

POI 1 - Grenspark Kempen-Broek.

The GrensPark Kempen ~ Broek is a 25000 ha area that alternates wet with dry, open with closed, nature with culture. It extends over the municipalities of Cranendonck, Weert, Nederweert, Bocholt, Bree, Kinrooi and Maaseik. The Kempen ~ Broek reveals a true mosaic of landscapes. You will find marshes, stream valleys, fens, forests, heaths, meadows, meadows, fields and large-scale agricultural areas. Many rare plant and animal species feel at home here. Did you know that in so few places in the Benelux there are so many species of dragonflies as in Kempen ~ Broek. The beaver has also returned a few years ago and with a bit of luck you can even see the red deer.
